Rodney Dean has been practicing law since 1973 with concentration in the areas of products liability, professional malpractice, aviation, construction, asbestos, and first party defense work. He formed his own law firm in 1988, joined by Michael Gibson within a year. These two formed the firm of Dean & Gibson, LLP in 1991.

He is personally rated "AV" by Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest possible rating attainable for ability and legal ethics. He has handled numerous trial and appellate matters at the State and Federal level.

Aviation Attorney and Continuing Education Instructor

Mr. Dean is a pilot and panel attorney for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Legal Services Plan, an organization that represents pilots in proceedings before the FAA and NTSB. He also has had membership in the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) Bar Association, Aviation Insurance Association, and is serving on the Board of Directors for the Carolinas Historic Aviation Commission.

As an approved instructor in North Carolina for continuing education programs, he conducts lectures and seminars in the field of property and casualty insurance, products liability, and various other insurance defense matters. He has provided seminars and training programs to bar groups, engineering and industry associations, insurance companies, businesses and aviation organizations.

Recognized Expert in Product Liability

Rodney Dean heads up the products liability practice at Dean & Gibson, PLLC. He has authored articles in the Journal of Products Liability, as well as books and articles related specifically to products liability claims in North Carolina. His articles have been published in the Journal of Failure Analysis Prevention, as well as the American Society for Materials Journal, and The Journal of Products Liability.

He has authored numerous presentations on products liability and related issues and has assisted clients with product review and product liability evaluation for products, manuals, and warnings. He has counseled numerous manufacturers on product design and safety, incident management, and spoliation of evidence.

Mr. Dean has been an executive affiliate member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for over 30 years and has also been an affiliate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Chemical Society. He has previously served on the ASTM Products Liability Commission Committee and has been a member of the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society.
